Vice President Leni Robredo released a statement today regarding the rampant hate crimes directed at Asian and Asian-American communities in the United States. In the statement, she said that “hatred has no place in any society that wishes to heal.” She denounced the blatant hatred crimes on Asians especially during a time when there is already a pandemic to worry about.
“At a time when the world should come together in solidarity against the greater threat of the pandemic, Asians, some of them Filipinos, have been singled out as targets of rage and racial hatred. This has contributed to a climate of growing fear in an atmosphere already made volatile by COVID-19,” VP Robredo said.
She went on to say that the incidents in the past few weeks are appalling, and that she hopes the new administration under President Joe Biden will ensure the safety of the Asian community in the country. (Read: 3 Asian Artists Who Will Join Ylona Garcia at Her New Label)
