Different admissions processIn November 2020, UP announced that it will no longer conduct its annual UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) for the Academic Year 2021-2022 due to “health and logistical issues” brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the university assessed applicants based on their high school records.
UPCAT 2021 was scheduled to be administered in the third quarter of 2020. According to the university, more than 100,000 examinees took the last UPCAT administered before the pandemic for the academic year 2020-2021.
Freshmen applicants for AY 2021-2022 submitted their application forms through an online portal, along with their high school grades, which were used to evaluate them. UP started accepting applications for first-year students on January 7 this year. (Read: Guidelines: How Can Incoming Freshmen Apply to UP This Year?)
In an ABS CBN news report, Francisco Delos Reyes, director of the UP Office of Admissions said that the alternative admission process would be “inclusive” as it considers the background of marginalized sectors such as indigenous people and public school students so they can get “fair access” to UP education.
Classes in UP for the incoming school year will start on Sept. 17 via flexible learning.
