As the popular author Stephen King once wrote, “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” And you, too, can get your very own “portable magic” at this year’s Big Bad Wolf (BBW) book sale! The sale, which was started in 2009 by Andrew Yap and Jacqueline Ng, is returning to World Trade Center in Manila on February 14—just in time to get books for your loved ones. It will be open 24 hours a day, from Valentine’s day until February 24, 2020.
An estimated two million new books will be brought to Philippine shores just for the sale—30,000 titles, with 17,000 titles just added to the catalog. That’s 30,000 chances of finding your “portable magic!” Considered as the world’s biggest traveling book sale, BBW will be providing books to avid readers for a low price—up to 90% off from its original price.
Aside from the huge discounts, the organizers have prepared “Crazy Deals” for guests, wherein selected titles will be put on sale for as cheap as P60 each. Other surprises also await those who will be visiting the 11-day sale.
More than the discounts, the BBW this year will be in for a bigger purpose. In fact, the book sale founders have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPH) to help raise awareness about the IPOPH’s programs and intellectual property rights per se. Gawad Kalinga is also continuing its partnership with BBW’s social responsibility arm, Red Readerhood, to give more people access to books. Books for donations to Red Readerhood programs are also available for purchase.
With the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) threat, BBW organizers released guidelines for the sale. The health precautions are as follows:
- Infrared thermometers at entrance and exit
- Hand sanitizers at entrance, exit, and Customer Service
- Customers and employees with high temperatures will not be allowed to enter
- Customers are encouraged to wear protective face masks
- Employees are required to sanitize hands and wear masks at all times
