After her 40 successful years in the showbiz industry, seasoned actress and singer Sharon Cuneta has declared that it is “almost time” for her to retire.
“Kids, it’s almost time. Mama’s tired. I love you,” she said alongside a black and white photo she posted on Instagram over the weekend. She also wrote “On my way to retirement” in the caption, and updated her Instagram bio with the statement “retiring soon.”
In September last year, Sharon had already expressed her plans to have a “semi-retirement” from showbiz. “Like I said, last year ko pa naiisip at nararamdaman ito, at kinausap ko na rin ang pamilya at manager at team ko noon pa tungkol dito,” she previously said. “I love you all so much, and I will try my very best to give you the best of me before I say goodbye. God bless us all.”
Sharon, who started her career back when she was still a teenager, has become one of the biggest stars in the Philippine entertainment industry. Dubbed as the Philippines’ Megastar, now 54-year-old Sharon has already starred in 59 successful films and had more than 40 hit albums which have firmly established her stature as one of the most iconic and beloved celebrity personalities in the Philippine entertainment industry.

Sharon started her career in the showbiz industry at the young age of 12 years old. She took the music industry by storm with her hit single, “Mr. DJ” which was primarily written for her by the famous Filipino singer-composer, Rey Valera. The song is so timelessly popular that even artists such as Regine Velasquez and Kathryn Bernardo recorded their own versions of the song.
The Sharon Cuneta Show inspired other variety shows.
One of the most iconic projects of Sharon would be her musical variety show that aired every Sunday night from September 14, 1986, to June 15, 1997. The Sharon Cuneta Show also somehow paved the way for and became an inspiration to other variety shows like Sarah G. Live! by Sarah Geronimo. Bituing Walang Ningning launched numerous careers.
If there’s one thing about Sharon that every Filipino knows—it will be her portrayal of Dorina Pineda in the 1985 film Bituing Walang Ningning.

This iconic movie indeed served as a cultural reset in the Philippines and continues to inspire other shows. As a matter of fact, in 2006, the movie also had a reboot—and paved the way to launch the careers of now-famous celebrities like Sarah Geronimo and Angelika Dela Cruz.
Bituing Walang Ningning was also turned into a musical in 2015 and it featured Philippine broadway stars such as Cris Villonco, Mark Bautista, and Monica Cuenco.
