Revisiting Adele’s Previous Albums as We Await the New One

Ah, the nostalgia!

Grammy award-winning superstar Adele made her first public appearance in years as she hosted Saturday Night Live (SNL) last Saturday, October 24.

The 31-year-old singer has been surprisingly absent in the music scene since 2015, that’s why when the news about her SNL stint broke out, she immediately became the number one trending topic on different social media platforms. (Read: 3 Times Sharon Cuneta Inspired ‘Mega’ Change in the Industry)

“I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first-ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!!” Adele wrote in an Instagram post. This was the first time for Adele to be back on SNL since she performed as a musical guest in 2015—in which she performed “Hello” and “When We Were Young” from her most recent album, 25

With her TV comeback, fans also started speculating if her return to the spotlight on SNL means that she is ready to release her follow-up to 2015’s 25. Could this appearance indicate that new music is coming soon? We’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, as we celebrate her comeback and wait for her possible new album, let us revisit her albums, and remind ourselves why we love Adele and her music.

Albums by Adele: 19 (2008)

In case you’re wondering why her album titles are mostly just numbers, they represent her age when she began working on the project. That makes her 19 years old when she wrote her debut album ’19’. (Read: Michael Bublé gives Filipina nurse a home, fulfills his grandfather’s dying wish)

In the album, Adele sings her stories of past relationships and experiences growing up. She poetically shared a countless number of thoughts and feelings in her songs such as the heart-breaking ballad “Chasing Pavements” and her unlockable cover of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love.”

Albums by Adele: 21 (2011)

Adele’s much-anticipated sophomore album, 21, was released in early 2011. The record became an instant hit, selling 352,000 copies within its first week.

The album was shamelessly perfect in capturing the raw emotions of Adele. Who would forget the melancholic ballads such as “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” and “Set Fire To The Rain” that placed Adele in the roster of the greatest artists of the decade?

Albums by Adele: 25 (2015)

As of writing, Adele’s 25 album is her most successful one yet. The album sold an amazing 800,307 copies in its first chart week, breaking the previous record made by Oasis. 25 is Adele’s different take on her artistry as she somehow explored different sounds in her songs. Just like her previous albums, heartbreak and nostalgic memories still dominated albums. Capitalizing on her personal stories, Adele gave us some of the most painful songs that year. Who would forget the album’s heart-breaking lead single “Hello,” that sings about reconnecting with a former lover. “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” was also a hit and the nostalgic “When We Were Young” made people cry for all the right reasons.
