Known by many as Saint Louis, Louis IX is the only King of France to be canonized in the Catholic Church. Growing up, St. Louis was already destined for greatness. He ruled his kingdom at the young age of 12—an unfateful result of the early passing of his parents who were king and queen—and made many reforms under his leadership.
But among all of these, the greatest pride of St. Louis was his relationship with his son, Philip III. The Saint took his responsibilities as a father very seriously and made sure that he was not only a good king, but also an exceptional dad as well. In fact, their father-and-son relationship is strongly manifested in a prayer of blessing that St. Louis personally wrote for Philip.

St. Louis’ Prayer of Blessing for His Son Philip
May the three Persons of the Holy Trinity and all the saints protect you from every evil. And may the Lord give you the grace to do his will so that he may be served and honored through you, that in the next life we may together come to see him, love him and praise him unceasingly. Amen.
