On this day in 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed, which signified an end to World War I. The treaty, which was signed in France, stated that Germany and the Allied Powers would end the state of war between them, and that Germany will surrender all of their colonies based on the mandate of the League of Nations.
But this treaty didn’t last long as the Second World War ensued not even two decades after the first one ended. Both wars tallied a combined 95 million deaths, both military and civilian, due to armed fight, genocides, starvation, and diseases, among others. So for today, on the 102nd anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, let us join hands and pray for a world that is united. Let us storm the heavens with prayers that these wars do not occur again, and no lives be lost anymore due to any armed fight.
A Prayer for Unity
Give us a blessing so that
our words and actions be one in unity,
and that we be able to listen to each other,
in so doing,
we shall with good heart walk hand in hand to face the future.
In the presence of the outside,
we are thankful for many blessings.
I make my prayer for all people,
the children, the women and the men.
I pray that no harm will come to them,
and that on the great island, there be no war,
that there be no ill feelings among us.
From this day on may we walk hand in hand.
So be it.
