Today, September 8, the world celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Formally known as the “Feast of the Nativity of Mary,” this day has always been a joyous occasion for Christians all over the world.
In Roman Catholic culture, the birth of the Virgin Mary is one of the three nativities that are celebrated across the year. The other two are the Nativity of Jesus (Christmas day) every 25th of December, and the Nativity of St. John the Baptist (birth of St. John the Baptist) every 24th of June. As we continue to observe strict measures to help fight the spread of the coronavirus disease, let us seek the loving guidance of our beloved Mama Mary and celebrate her day of birth with these heartfelt prayers! (Read: Prayers of the Rosary)
Prayer for the Feast of the Birth of Mary
God Our Father, give your chosen people your help and strength. The birth of the Virgin Mary’s son was the dawn of our salvation.
May our celebration of her nativity bring us closer to lasting peace and may the virtues that she modeled develop in our lives, to love you and our neighbors more perfectly.
Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen
The Pope’s Prayer to Mary Amid the Pandemic
O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.
You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.
Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
