On July 4, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced that a C-130 plane had crashed in Sulu. The plane was supposedly transporting troops from Cagayan de Oro to Jolo when it missed the runway on the island. It crashed in the nearby village of Patikul at 11:30 AM.
The crash effectively killed 50 people–47 military personnel, 3 civilians–and injured 49 personnel and four civilians. It has now been considered the worst military air disaster in recent decades. (Read: AFP Plane Crash: All Passengers Accounted for, Deaths at 50)
No one can even begin to imagine the grief and pain the families of those killed are feeling right now. Most especially since most of the plane’s passengers were fresh graduates and just finished their military training. So in remembrance of these soldiers, and to pray for the peace and comfort of their loved ones, we offer this prayer.
Prayer for Families of Plane Crash Victims
I pray for all the victims and their families.
Grant them comfort in the hour of their grief.
Grant them peace of mind and a confident heart
that you are always there in every crisis of life.
Wrap your loving tender arms around the families.
Comfort and strengthen them during this tragedy.
We thank you for your loving kindness and
for touching each and every person who is affected by this event.
We thank you for showing up in their lives.
In the name of Jesus,
I pray that everyone touched by this plane crash
will find peace in the mist of these painful times.
In my distress I called upon the Lord,
and cried to my God:
and He did hear my voice out of His Temple,
and my cry did enter into His ears.
