Undoubtedly, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people all around the world. And it’s not just those who contracted the disease that are affected—thousands also lost their jobs due to quarantine restrictions, and some have been left grief-stricken by the passing of loved ones afflicted by the virus.
The Pope, fondly known as Lolo Kiko among Filipinos, has constantly prayed for various groups of people such as media workers and artists whom he says has made huge contributions to society now and in the past.
Now, Lolo Kiko is asking the world to pray the Rosary with him on May 30 to ask the Blessed Mary for guidance during this pandemic. The pope, who will be leading the Rosary via livestream at the replica of the Lourdes Grotto in the Vatican Gardens, invites all Marian shrines to pray with him at 5PM Rome Time—or 11PM, Philippine Time. The Pontifical Council for Promoting New Evangelization says that the purpose of this joint Rosary is to lift all problems to the Blessed Virgin and ask her for guidance and help during this pandemic. “At the feet of Mary, the Holy Father will place the many troubles and sorrows of humanity, further worsened by the spread of COVID-19,” the Council said.
They also encourage all shrines who will participate to stream their Rosary session as well for those who will not be able to watch the livestream of the Holy Father. The following sanctuaries dedicated to Mary will also livestream the Rosary:
- San Giovanni Rotondo
