The Pope’s Message to Filipinos for 500 Years of Christianity in PH

Pope Francis sent a video message to Filipinos who celebrate the quincentenary of Christianity in the Philippines.

In celebration of 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines, Pope Francis sent a video message of hope, love, and faith to the Filipino people.

On Sunday, April 4, the Pope shared via video message the three mysteries of faith, which are part of the deepest Christian roots of the Filipino people: Nazareththe Cross, and Pentecost. (Read: The Discovery of the True Cross)

According to the Pope, the tender love of the Holy Child “is a symbol of the arrival of Christianity in your archipelago.” He recalled the hidden life of the Holy Family in Nazareth and related it with the difficulties that the people of the Philippines have had to face— earthquakes, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“By opening the doors of your families to the Holy Child, you too will be able to transmit to your children the faith that you received from your parents,” the Pope declared. (Read: The 500-Year History of Catholicism in the Philippines)

Despite the pain and devastation, Filipinos “continued to carry the cross and to keep walking. You suffered greatly, but you also got up, time and time again,” he added.
