PGH Is Calling for Donations – Here’s How You Can Help!

The largest COVID-19 referral hospital in the country is in need of help after a fire ravaged one of its buildings yesterday.

The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) is calling for donations after a fire ravaged its pay hospital building yesterday.

PGH is a COVID-19 referral hospital and its facilities are dedicated to treating coronavirus patients. This is apart from treating non-COVID patients. (Read: 5 Ways to Fireproof Your Home, According to a Veteran Firefighter)

PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario said in a DZBB interview that the fire started at the Operating Room Sterilization Area on the third floor of PGH’s central block building, where paying patients were admitted.

Several patients were evacuated and transferred to different hospitals in Manila. No casualties were reported and the fire did not spread to other places.

Call for Donations

After the reports, calls for donations started to pop up online to help the affected patients and healthcare workers. The PGH opened its own official call— food, non-food, and cash donations are accepted. Breastmilk for premature and sick babies are also needed. The University of the Philippines’ Office of the Student Regent (OSR) also initiated a donation drive and urgently asked for industrial fans to help clear the smoke from the fire, oxygen tanks, and linen.

“As an institution within the UP System, the OSR offers its time and resources to assist all efforts related to relief, rehabilitation and response whenever disasters and calamities arise in different parts of the country,” it said in a statement.

“We are open to partnership with institutions and organizations inside and outside the university to widen the scope of aid that can be provided to those affected,” it added. (Read: LIST: The Best Food Items to Donate for Disaster Victims)
