Call for donors! PGH runs low on blood supply for patients

With the fast spread of COVID-19 across the country, and city lockdowns implemented, the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) has issued a rallying call to blood donors after donations and stocks started to run out—a rising concern that may cause yet another public health crisis in the coming weeks.

To make up for the shortage, nurses and doctors have already been donating their own blood for their patients. However, donors are still much needed to help them sustain the blood supply at the hospital.

Be A Hero

Recently, PGH has been designated as one of the three COVID-19 referral centers in Metro Manila. That’s why social distancing measures will be greatly implemented to the donors.

Interested participants are asked to make an appointment first via the PGH Blood Bank, whose contact details are as follows:

  • PGH Blood Bank– 8554-8400 loc 3017
  • Globe – 09057201890
  • Smart – 0947488281

To ensure the safety of both patients and donors, these are some of the requirements donors must meet to be eligible to donate blood:

  1. A donor must be at least 17 years old.
  2. A donor must be in a healthy condition and having no pre-existing illnesses like heart and blood diseases.
  3. Must also not have gotten a fever or any infections such as cough, colds, or vomiting one week before their donation.

While the world may be scared at the moment because of the COVID-19  pandemic, everyone is encouraged to donate. In this time of darkness, let us not forget that some of our brothers and sisters with pre-existing conditions are vulnerable to the virus and much in need of help.
