An adventure tale

The film follows Vivo, a kinkajou (a rainforest “honey bear”), who is musically gifted just like his owner, Andres. He and his owner play music at a town square regularly to entertain the crowd, where people would gladly watch them and even join in on the fun!

But tragedy strikes after Andres receives an invitation from his old partner, famous performer Marta Sandoval, to reconnect at her farewell concert. And this is where Vivo comes in to hopefully save the day–he must deliver a long-lost love letter-slash-song to Marta, written by Andres. While that may sound like an easy task, it actually isn’t because Marta lives a world apart. Now Vivo has to employ the help of Gabi, a tween who “bounces to the beat of her own offbeat drum”.

Star-studded cast

And the voices behind the characters are some of the best in Hollywood, both old and new.

Vivo is voiced by Grammy, Pulitzer, and Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda who also wrote the songs in the movie, while Andres is voiced by Juan de Marcos (Buena Vista Social Club). Three-time Grammy winner and Latin pop icon Gloria Estefan lends her voice to Andres’s love, Marta.

Also joining the cast is newcomer Ynairaly Simo as Gabi, Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Rosa (Gabi’s mother), and Michael Rooker as Lutador, a villainous Everglades python.

The movie is directed by Oscar nominee Kirk DeMicco, co-directed by Brandon Jeffords, and written by Quiara Alegria Hudes. The music in the film is produced by Tony and Grammy winner Alex Lacamoire, who also did work for In the Heights, The Greatest Showman, Hamilton, and Dear Evan Hansen.
