Miss Universe PH celebrates Filipino artistry in its first-ever benefit fashion gala

On June 4, the Philippines’ very own queens of the universe will be strutting down the Marriott Hotel catwalk wearing not just their crowns, but also the creations of celebrated Filipino designers.

Miss Universe Philippines, in partnership with Binibining Pilipinas groups, will be holding its first-ever benefit gala and fashion show on Tuesday, June 4. The event, announced to be held at the Marriott Hotel, aims to celebrate Filipino artistry by showcasing the works of Filipino designers Albert Andrada, Michael Leyva, Rhett Eala, Ito Curata, Jot Losa, Avel Bacudio, Cherry Veric, and Martin Bautista.

These designers’ beautiful creations will be worn by past Miss Universe Philippines winners and Binibining Pilipinas 2019 candidates. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will be joining the event as well.

“I’m so happy, I’m really proud,” says Pia, who was asked during a press conference about how she feels toward Miss Universe’s growth and evolution. “Bigla ko na realize na oo nga ‘no, ang laki na pala ng pinagbago ngayon (I suddenly realized that yes, so much has changed now). From my year when I was competing, there was a time when we couldn’t even wear Filipino designers on Bb Pilipinas, and now, we’re having a charity gala showcasing eight Filipino designers,” she said.

Proceeds from the benefit gala and fashion show will reportedly go to Love Yourself and Young Focus Philippines––organizations that Pia and Catriona support, respectively. Love Yourself representative Dr. Vinn Garcia-Pagtakhan says that they plan to allocate the funds to HIV treatment centers. Young Focus Philippines, on the other hand, plans to use the funds to provide support to out-of-school youth programs.
