After the sudden death of 26-year-old YouTube star Lloyd Cafe Cadena due to a heart attack just days after he tested positive for COVID-19, his family, friends, and fans have been in grave mourning.
It can be recalled that ever since Lloyd started his YouTube channel in 2011, he has collaborated with a lot of vloggers who have also become his good friends through the years. And as his death left a dent in the local YouTube community, many of these vloggers have also dedicated a spot on their channels to pay tribute to him. Now, three weeks after Lloyd’s death, his best friends Michelle Dy and Madam Ely tearfully recall the humor, energy, kindness, and generosity of their fallen friend.
Madam Ely: ‘Lloyd dedicated his life to serving God and others.’
Lloyd Cadena’s best friend Madam Ely, who is also a vlogger on YouTube, posted a tribute video for Lloyd entitled “Mare…” In the 19-minute video, Madam Ely recalled their journey together as friends and the “unbearable” pain he felt when his friend died.
When Lloyd was admitted to the hospital, Madam Ely shared how he would call his friend to make sure that he is being taken care of. “I wanted to make sure that you’re taken care of. I wanted to make sure that you’ll be okay. But more than that, I wanted to make sure that you felt loved,” he said.
In the video, Madam Ely enumerated the lessons he learned from his seven years of friendship with Lloyd. “I will always tell your story with my head up high. Because I know that in this lifetime, [in] the seven good long years of a beautiful friendship, [I met] someone who lived a life dedicated to serve [sic] God and others. They will all see the genuine goodness in your heart and they will also be inspired.”
Michelle Dy: ‘Lloyd has always been my protector.’
On September 18, in a video titled “I Love You Lloyd…,” Pinay beauty vlogger Michelle Dy shared about how she has been coping after learning about her good friend Lloyd’s death.
According to Michelle, during the past weeks, she has been doing “okay, but not 100 percent.” She also shared that after finding out about Lloyd’s demise, she has been constantly struggling with her grief. “The truth is, of course, you can never be 100% okay,” she said. “Yun ang struggle naming mga nakasama ni Lloyd.” (Read: How does one cope with loss and grief while in isolation?)
Michelle, later on, went to recall her closeness with Lloyd—especially about how the latter would protect her from bashers and hate from the internet. “He would always, always protect me and he would make sure that he would be there for me in times of need..,” she tearfully said. “Pareho kami ni Lloyd na lapitin ng mga issues—yung mga pang-ba-bash, mga ganyan. We made each other feel that we have each other’s backs.”
When asked about what will be her next step, Michelle said that she will continue to live but she’s certain that things will change since her friend’s death. “Magiging medyo different lang yung another chapter. I’m pretty sure Lloyd is up there, protecting every one of us and looking down upon us. And he would not want us to be sad and cry for him.”
