Here Are The Best-Dressed Guests That Made Heads Turn At The 2021 Met Gala

The 2021 Met Gala was co-chaired by Gen Z stars Naomi Osaka, Amanda Gorman, Timothee Chalamet, and Billie Eilish.

Last night, America’s biggest celebrities came together at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City for the annual Met Gala. A fundraising event, the Met Gala is also known as “fashion’s biggest event” as celebrities don extravagant designer dresses and tuxedos that are on-theme for that year.

For 2021, Gen Z celebrities Billie Eilish and Timothee Chalamet, tennis star Naomi Osaka, and poet Amanda Gorman co-chaired the event. Former 2NE1 rapper and current solo artist CL made her debut on the Met Gala red carpet wearing a blue denim coat and white briefs underneath. The outfit in a way resembled the Statue of Liberty–a symbol of freedom and one of America’s most popular tourist attractions. It was designed by Alexander Wang. CL is one of the first Korean female idols to have graced the Met Gala, alongside BLACKPINK’s Rosé.

Filipino-American singer and actress Hailee Steinfeld turned heads when she walked the red carpet almost unrecognizable. The 24-year-old had on an Iris Van Herpen cream asymmetrical dress, with matching blond bob and bleached blond eyebrows. People were shocked to see Hailee’s drastic makeover, but praised her entire outfit.

The rapper made jaws drop with his three-piece Versace regal outfit. The first layer is an ornate cape that was covered in intricate gold beading, and when removed, it unveiled a gold armor-like outfit. And for the last reveal, Lil Nas X had on a crystal-laden bodysuit with Versace’s signature house print. We wanted to start with, like, royalty, you know. Or like, a cloak…like we’re in our shell, And then we break out of it a little bit more. It’s kind of like me when I got into the industry. No one knew who I was. It’s like I built this shield around myself… I came out, and this year, I feel like I REALLY came out,” Lil Nas X explained.

The Australian singer made heads turn when he walked the red carpet in a black fitted dress with deep plunging neckline and side cutouts. The co-chair of the gala looked absolutely divine in her Oscar de la Renta ball gown. The gown was inspired by Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly’s fashion, and also “Holiday Barbie” gowns from back then. Billie matched the ethereal gown with curled blond hair a la Marilyn Monroe.
