Foodies always love to try new food, and it’s a bonus if you can have various cuisines in just one place. That’s why even fine dining restaurants are now offering multiple cuisines that customers can try just in one sitting— one of which is Shanghai restaurant, Obscura!
Obscura has a 10-course tasting menu that features different elements from China’s eight regional cuisines: Sichuan, Hunan, Cantonese, Fujian, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Shandong. But aside from this outstanding menu, foodies and regular customers are in for another treat, as Obscura is owned by Chef Simon Wong and his wife, Chef DeAille Tam — a Michelin star chef and Asia’s Best Female Chef for 2021!

Chef DeAille Tam was raised in Canada.
Chef DeAille was born in Hong Kong, but moved to Canada with her family when she was 10 years old. During college, she took up engineering— very much different from her line of work now— but found a passion for cooking when she had to make meals for herself. That’s when she decided to forego university to pursue culinary.
Chef DeAille Tam has a postgraduate degree.
The chef left university to pursue a culinary degree at George Brown College in Toronto. Chef DeAille has a postgraduate degree in Italian Cuisine from the institution on her sleeve. And coincidentally, that’s where she met her would-be husband, Simon, who also left university (he was studying to become a doctor) to pursue culinary! Chef DeAille Tam previously worked at Bo Innovation.
Bo Innovation is a 3-Michelin star restaurant in Hong Kong, owned by none other than the “Demon Chef” himself, Alvin Leung. Chef DeAille and her husband, both had the chance to work at this well-known restaurant!
She and Simon prepared what is dubbed as ‘Xtreme Chinese’ dishes; and in 2016, they were appointed as co-executive chefs for Bo Innovation’s sister restaurant, Bo Shanghai at Five on the Bund.
