LOOK: Pope Francis receives his own copy of the Manila Cathedral coffee table book

Finally, Pope Francis received his long-awaited copy of the new Manila Cathedral coffee table book––and reports say he loved every page of it!

On May 20, during the Filipino Catholic Church’s ad limina apostolorum (a once-in-every-five-year tradition wherein bishops from all over the world meet with the Pope to report the status of their respective dioceses and archdioceses) at the Vatican, Pope Francis received his copy of the book titled Manila Cathedral: Restoring a Monument to Faith, Architecture, and History.

The book, beautifully boxed along with a replica of the Cathedral’s iconic bronze doors, was handed to the Santo Papa by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle and Manila Cathedral rector Regie Malicdem.

According to reports, the Santo Papa was deeply delighted to have received his own copy of the book as it gives him a glimpse of the colorful history of the Philippines’ Mother Church––where he also happened to celebrate his first Mass during his 5-day visit in the country.

True enough, Manila Cathedral: Restoring a Monument to Faith, Architecture, and History takes its readers on a walk down memory lane with its never-before-seen photos and exclusive insider stories. The book captures the Cathedral’s awe-inspiring history through archival photos and old architectural plans of the Manila Cathedral post-World War II (1952-1958) as well as architectural reports and scans of Cathedral’s most recent restoration project (2012 to 2014).

But that’s not all! Manila Cathedral: Restoring a Monument to Faith, Architecture, and History also gives readers an exclusive peek at the Cathedral’s latest restored state. With photos taken by architect-slash-photographer Marc Henrich Go, the book highlights the Cathedral’s most breathtaking structural details, works of art, and precious vessels.

No wonder Pope Francis was in awe of its pages!

Want your own copy of Manila Cathedral: Restoring a Monument to Faith, Architecture, and History? The book is now available at the Manila Cathedral for Php 2,500. To order, contact Ms. Donna Santos at 527-3093.
