LOOK: Tradition meets technology in new ‘smart Rosary’

What is it about praying the Rosary that leaves you with an undeniable sense of calm? Maybe it’s the meditative effect of repeatedly reciting the Our Father and Hail Mary. Or perhaps it’s the meaning behind these prayers that soothes frayed nerves. Whatever it is, even Pope Francis recognizes the power of praying the Rosary, calling it “spiritual medicine.”

Now you can pray the rosary whenever and wherever you like—thanks to a newly developed eRosary!

Launched at the Vatican in the Month of the Holy Rosary on October 15, Click to Pray e-Rosary is a sleek wearable device by GadgeTech Inc. made of 10 black agate and hematite beads strung to a metal cross, where all the data connected to the app is stored.

Worn as a bracelet, this “smart rosary” can be activated by making the sign of the cross and is synchronized with a free app (downloaded through the Apple Store or Google Play) that features three ways to pray the Rosary (standard, contemplative, thematic) plus an audio guide and stunning visuals.

The app also works as a health tracker, allowing you to monitor the number of your steps, calories burned, and distance covered in a given workout.

According to Vatican News, Click to Pray eRosary “serves as a technology-based teaching tool to help young people pray the Rosary for peace and to contemplate the Gospel. The project brings together the best of the Church’s spiritual tradition and the latest advances of the technological world.”

Furthermore, the eRosary “is an initiative of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, a pontifical work with the mission of mobilizing Catholics through prayer and action, in the face of the challenges confronting humanity and the mission of the Church. These challenges are addressed in the form of prayer intentions each month, entrusted by the Pope to the entire Church. The network has produced all the special contents of this smart rosary.”

Water and dust resistant, the eRosary comes with a wireless charging station (2.5 hours of charging equals four days of use). The app is iOS- and Android-compatible and is available in English, Spanish, and Italian. It fits wrists between 16-21 cm and has a two-year warranty.
