Liza Soberano Opens Up About Anxiety, Shares Tips for Good Mental Health

The actress shares some of the useful tips she learned as a psychology student!

It’s not a secret that the ongoing pandemic has been affecting everyone from all walks of life. Even celebrities and other famous personalities have been opening up about suffering from major stress and anxiety during the quarantine period, and many believe that these issues can cause problems that are likely to remain even after the pandemic. 

Kapamilya actress Liza Soberano is one of many Filipinos who are currently experiencing mental health issues due to what’s been happening globally. “There’s a feeling of hopelessness sometimes because there’s so much going on in the world and you want to help but you can’t,” Liza says in an interview with Asian Boss. “You can’t really do anything but voice out your opinions on social media or help by donating to certain organizations—you know, small steps to help whatever is going on the world right now.” (Read: 5 Celebrities Share Their Biggest Realizations While In Quarantine)

Aside from the pandemic, Liza also admits that other factors—like the ABS-CBN franchise denial and her not being able to continue operating her business—also contribute to her anxiety. 

“Since the beginning of the quarantine, I was paying so much attention to it (ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal) that I started getting anxious and getting upset that I absolutely have no control,” she said in an online presscon for Nivea. But even with all these problems, Liza is still trying to cope with the “new normal” and live her life to the fullest. How is she doing it? Liza shares some of the mental health tips she learned while she was still a psychology student!

Tip #1: Find a hobby.

“Keep yourself busy. Try to find something new to do. That’s one thing that I discovered that helps with anxiety. When you try to learn a new talent or maybe a technique or skill, it really helps with easing or letting you forget about whatever it is that you’re thinking about at that moment because you really have to focus on learning,” Liza said on her interview with Asian Boss. Tip #2: Give yourself a break.

With all the things that are happening right now, Liza suggests that taking a break and giving yourself a day-off from the bad news of the world is a must. “There are so many crises we’re facing and I feel like we all need to take the time out and just really reset our minds and our hearts and our emotions,” she said. Tip #3: Have a social media detox.

We can all agree that social media can be a dark place. That’s why for Liza, it’s very important to have a social media detox once in a while. In fact, over the quarantine period, the Kapamilya actress has been regularly reading books instead of surfing the internet! Tip #4: Be kind to everyone.
