A third player has entered the telecoms arena. DITO Telecommunity has officially launched its services in Metro Manila yesterday, May 17.
The joint venture of businessman Dennis Uy and China Telecoms expects subscribers to reach over two million by end of the year. In March, DITO’s mobile services were launched in Visayas, Mindanao, and selected areas in Luzon— it reached 500,000 subscribers, Uy said. Immediately following the launch, DITO announced that it is offering 25GB of data for P199 valid for a month. The promo also includes unlimited texts and free 300 minutes of calls to other mobile networks, as well as unlimited DITO-to-DITO calls and texts.
Areas Covered by DITO Telecom
DITO is now available in 100 cities and municipalities in the Philippines. According to DITO Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo Santiago, more areas are slated to be opened this year. (Read: 3 Apps, Social Media Platforms for COVID-Related Services)
“Half a million subscribers only covers 54 cities and municipalities and with the addition of 46 to more than 100 cities and municipalities. We expect that this will drastically increase,” Santiago said.
