With the country being under lockdown, many people are getting more free time for themselves. While some are finally pursuing the passion projects they have been wanting to do for so long, others are using their time to be alone with their thoughts and reconnect with themselves—like the Philippines’ Queen of all Media Kris Aquino.
Kris, together with her sons Josh and Bimby, had a journey of a lifetime during the quarantine period. The family got stranded in Puerto Galera for nearly three months due to the government-imposed lockdown, but Kris says the situation has her the opportunity to reflect and realize things on her own. With the hope to help you get through this pandemic like how the Queen of all Media did, My Pope Philippines lists down some of Kris Aquino’s realizations during the quarantine period.
Everyone Is Affected by the Pandemic in Different Ways

We got all our clearances & permits, now we’re ready for the 1st part of our journey HOME! Just in time for kuya’s birthday tomorrow. (a special thank you to WBR for letting @checkticsay & randy, aka “hello kitty” stay to help us.) it’s been almost 3 months but everyone at Sunset & the Puerto Galera LGU really made us feel welcome. (Thank you to Doc Oca for helping mend my left hand & Doc delos Reyes for regularly checking kuya josh, bimb, and me.)
During her stay in Puerto Galera, Kris saw the realities many Filipinos faced during the pandemic. “Marami akong natututunan sa buhay probinsya, lalo na tungkol sa realidad sa ‘resort’ town,” she said on a twitter post.
The Queen of all Media has seen how the nationwide quarantine and the coronavirus pandemic have brought different circumstances to the communities especially in terms of tourism which is the main source of their livelihood. (Read: The Ultimate Guide To Becoming A Certified Plant Tita or Tito)
“Ang mga residents may mga maliit na taniman ng gulay sa kanilang mga bahay pero walang palayan na malapit, kaya mahalaga talaga ang supply ng bigas. Masakit sa puso kasi dapat ngayon ang PEAK SEASON ng mga Galerans for tourism,” she said
To help the frontliners and residents of Puerto Galera, Kris decided to donate sacks of rice for each of the barangays in the municipality amid the quarantine period. (Read: This Youth Group Donates School Supplies to Children — but With a Twist!)
“I believe we find ourselves in a specific area at a specific time as part of God’s plan,” Kris said. “I am no longer active in entertainment, nobody in my immediate family is in politics, so for me, this makes it all the more REAL—walang inaasahang kapalit, nakikiisa lamang sa mga kapwa Pinoy,” she added.
Frontliners Are Modern-Day Heroes
The current COVID-19 pandemic poses a dramatic threat to everyone’s life, and without our medical frontliners, things could have gotten worse by now. For Kris, words are not enough to thank every medical fronliners for the bravery and sacrifices they are doing for the country during these dark times. “Ngayon ko na-realize also the great sacrifice na binibigay ng health care workers. Because they give their lives in order for us to live,” Kris said in a video from Cornerstone talent management.
We Must Live Not Just for Ourselves
Another thing that Kris realized while in quarantine is how everyone has been lacking compassion toward others. The renowned talk show host realized that during the pandemic people should be selfless and always try to help others. (Read: 5 Inspirational Filipinos Who Didn’t Let COVID-19 Get Them Down)
“I also believe that it [the pandemic] showed us that we need to not live just for ourselves, but to live in order to help others. Kasi, parang ‘yun ang nawala?” she said.
The Quarantine Period Is a Family Journey
The coronavirus crisis has forced everyone around the world to spend more time together at home. For some, this situation has been a walk in the park but in some cases, “isolation can break families apart,” Kris said. (Read: Young Couple Shares Their Secret to Instilling Faith in Kids)
“For most families, this could really bring them closer because it’s when you value the lives of each other more,” she explained. “I can only share what happened to the three of us. It was just us the whole time. We love each other, but there were moments when we just didn’t want to talk with each other anymore. It’s not because we were in a financial bind—we know we’re very lucky. That’s why I told the boys, ‘Let’s try to be more patient with each other,’” Kris shared with Inquirer Entertainment.
