A few days ago, a new Korean movie titled Space Sweepers made its way to Netflix, making for another addition to the streaming platform’s growing collection of K-dramas and K-movies. The movie is the first-ever Korean space blockbuster and is directed by Jo Sung Hee, the director of the award-winning 2012 romance fantasy film, A Werewolf Boy.
Space Sweepers features Kim Tae Ri of the highly-rated historical drama Mr. Sunshine, Jin Seon Kyu who won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the movie The Outlaws, and Richard Armitage who played Thorin in The Hobbit. But if the award-winning actors and director we mentioned doesn’t make you want to watch the movie yet, we’d like to let you know that South Korean heartthrob Song Joong Ki stars in it, too!
The 35-year-old actor plays Tae-ho, former captain of the Space Guards and a UTS (a fictional corporation) genius. Those who have already watched the movie praised the heartthrob for his acting, as well as the other actors, and the animators and crew for their undeniable talent. And if you can’t get enough of Joong Ki and still want to watch more of him, possibly in other genres of film and TV, My Pope Philipines is listing some films and series where you can watch the actor!
Films Starring Song Joong Ki: Descendants of the Sun
This might just be Song Joong Ki’s most popular drama to date, and was one of the major factors that catapulted the actor into international superstardom. In the romance action drama, Joong Ki plays Captain Yoo Si Jin of the South Korean Army, who falls in love with Kang Mo Yeon, a doctor who treats his wounds.
He stars alongside his former wife, Song Hye Kyo, who plays his love interest, Jin Goo who is his comrade in the series, and Kim Ji Won who is an army doctor. Descendants of the Sun (DOTS) is available for streaming on Netflix.
Films Starring Song Joong Ki: A Werewolf Boy
In this award-winning movie, 27-year-old Joong Ki takes on the role of Chul-soo, a teenager who has bestial instincts and didn’t know how to read or write. His character eventually becomes ‘human’ and starts to have feelings for the young woman who took care of him. (Read: ‘To All the Boys’ Stars Lana Condor, Ross Butler Reveal They Love Lumpia!)
The heartfelt and tear-jerking movie became a blockbuster and, as mentioned, was also directed by Jo Sung Hee. The movie is only available for stream on Netflix Korea.
Films Starring Song Joong Ki: The Battleship Island
Joong Ki plays Park Moo-Young, a member of the Korean Independence Movement, in this period action movie. The Battleship Island is all about how the Koreans are taken as slaves by the Japanese in Hashima Island, and made to endure harsh manual labor. When they hear of the Japanese’s plans of blowing the island up, Moo-Young, together with Choi Chil-sung (So Ji Sub of Oh My Venus) and others who can’t stand the labor, plot an escape.
This movie won Best Art Direction at the Blue Dragon Film Awards. It can only be streamed on Netflix Korea.
Song Joong Ki also has a new series titled Vincenzo coming to Netflix on February 20.
