Pugad Baboy creator Pol Medina Jr. and others appear in Komik Fest 2020

What were your favorite comics when you were growing up? Was it Archie or Charlie Brown? Did you prefer DC over Marvel, or the other way around? Maybe you waited for the morning paper to arrive so you could grab the comics section that featured local cartoons like Baltic & Co. by Roni Santiago or Ikabod Bubwit by Nonoy Marcelo.

If you’re a longtime lover of the art of comics (or just started developing an interest in it), drop by Komik Fest on Saturday, January 25, from 10 am to 7 pm at Venture Space, 724 Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City. The event celebrates “the love for komiks,” as it says on its Facebook page. “Whether you are a komik creator or komik fan, everyone is welcome at Komik Fest!”

What else is in store for komik junkies?

It looks like 2020 is a good year for all comic lovers because more exciting events are on their way! Komiket, one of the biggest and most anticipated local komiks and art markets in the country, will be launching the first-ever Philippine International Comics Festival (PICOF) on June 12-14, 2020.

Packed with fun activities such as book launches, artist talks, seminars, and a chance to meet film producers, merchandisers, and publishers, the event will also host the Komiket Awards where 10 new comic book stories and creators will have a chance to win P150,000.

Filipino writers, illustrators, and creators of all ages will now have a platform to pitch their original komiks–whether in concept development, a current work in progress, or even a finished work– in front of an international jury. All genres, any art style, and color are accepted.

Interested? Email your pitches with a signed entry form to [email protected] on or before July 1, 2019! The full mechanics and entry forms are available in the Komiket and PICOF Facebook Pages.
