A decade ago, people were crazy about the stories on the publishing website, Wattpad. Stories from independent writers around the world were well-loved by millions of readers globally. These stories were so good that publishing houses even published them as actual books— and some were even adapted into movies!
In the Philippines, the books She’s Dating the Gangster and Diary ng Panget both made it to the big screen with Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, and Nadine Lustre and James Reid top-billing them, respectively. (Read: How BTS Inspired This Author to Write Best-Selling Fanfics)
For this year, many are excited as another Wattpad story will be adapted into a screenplay. Maxine Lat’s He’s Into Her will finally be released on-screen on May 30— two years after the announcement of its TV adaptation. The iWant series will star ABS-CBN’s newest love team, Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano.
What should we be excited about in this book-to-series adaptation? My Pope Philippines lists them down below!
#1: Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano’s Undeniable Chemistry
The trailer says it all: There is undeniable chemistry between the lead actors, Donny and Belle. But honestly, this is not surprising at all— especially with the background of these two young actors! (Read: Five Local Celebrities Who Are Not Afraid to Declare Their Faith Online)
Donny comes from an all-star family— he is the son of Anthony Pangilinan and Maricel Laxa, and is the nephew of the “Megastar,” Sharon Cuneta. He is also a relative of siblings Kiana and Gab Valenciano, and the grandson of the original Agent X44 Tony Ferrer. With relatives like them, Donny surely has what it takes to become a star!
On the other hand, Belle has been in the spotlight for almost a decade now. She used to be part of the children’s comedy show, Goin’ Bulilit, and had supporting roles in several ABS-CBN teleseryes. This will be Belle’s first starring role in a series, and we’re looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us!
#2: The Difference Between the Series and the Book
Adaptations are known to stray from their inspiration’s storyline at some point to make it more appropriate for TV or movie screens. Sometimes, they omit parts of the story to shorten the watch time, but often, it loses an important aspect of the story.
We’re all waiting to see if the He’s Into Her series sticks to the original story, or changes up some things — will there be a new character, a different storyline, or a plot twist, perhaps? If they make some changes, we definitely hope it’s cohesive and good!
#3: The Original Soundtrack for ‘He’s Into Her’
Yes, an original song was written just for the series adaptation! The song, which goes by the same title as the show, is performed by the new boyband, BGYO, which was just launched earlier this year. (Read: 3 New Songs by Pinoy Artists That You Need to Hear Right Now)
He’s into Her is the perfect summer song for anyone who wants to feel relaxed and happy despite the hot summer weather. It’s also a kilig song for everyone who wants to have that “butterflies in the stomach” experience!
The series will stream on iWant TFC starting May 30, 8:45 pm— but premium and standard subscribers will get early access two days before each episode’s release.
