The Stars Who Left Grey’s Anatomy: Where Are They Now?

Warning: There might be some spoilers here and there, so read with caution!

Today, Grey’s Anatomy fans are celebrating the 16th anniversary of the show’s first episode premiere. It truly is an event worth celebrating, as years after it first aired on television, the medical drama series is still ongoing and is now on its 17th season.

As a treat for their ever-supportive fans, the Grey’s Anatomy crew released on March 26 the trailer for next week’s episode. Many were quick to share their thoughts and feelings about the upcoming episode, especially because one of the fan-favorite characters in the series is making a comeback (spoiler alert!). But aside from the feels this trailer gave us, it also got us curious as to where the actors who left the show are now. So My Pope Philippines scoured the internet for some answers! (Warning: There might be some spoilers here and there, so read with caution!)

Grey’s Anatomy Cast: Chyler Leigh

Chyler Leigh played the (arguably) most favorite Grey’s character of all time, Lexie Grey— the younger half-sister of the show’s main protagonist, Meredith. She was a part of the show for five years until she left, quite tragically, in season 8 (2012). But as they say, when one door closes, a window opens. Three years after her departure from the medical drama, Chyler landed the main role for the DC Comics series, Supergirl, playing Alexandra ‘Alex’ Danvers. Until now, Chyler continues to star in the show.

Grey’s Anatomy Cast: T.R. Knight

In the series, T.R. Knight played George O’Malley— one of the original five interns dubbed ‘MAGIC’ (Meredith, Alex, George, Izzie, and Cristina). For five years, George was a fan favorite for his honesty and character development. Unfortunately, T.R.’s stint as an aspiring surgeon at the Seattle Grace Hospital came to a close in season 5 (2009), when George died.

Currently, the 47-year-old actor stars in various TV shows and films. Most recently, he played Davey Bowden in the Kaley Cuoco-led comedy-drama, The Flight Attendant. He also returned for one episode in season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy in 2020!

Grey’s Anatomy Cast: Eric Dane

Eric Dane played the head of plastic surgery Mark ‘McSteamy’ Sloan, who also happens to be Derek ‘McDreamy’ Shepherd’s best friend. Mark was not a favored character in the beginning as he was arrogant and self-centered— but as the series progressed, fans began to love him more. However, the end of the line for Mark was in season 8 during the fatal plane crash they were involved in. (LIST: All the Netflix Series Starring Park Shin-Hye)

After his departure from Grey’s, Eric had been guesting and starring in a handful of films and shows. Since 2019, he has been playing as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, an HBO series.

Grey’s Anatomy Cast: Jessica Capshaw

Jessica Capshaw played the lovable and family-oriented pediatric surgeon, Arizona Robbins. She began as a recurring character in season 5, and became a regular cast beginning season 6 (2010). Jessica, however, had to hang her white coat in the finale of season 14 (2018) after almost a decade as Arizona.

Since then, Jessica has been starring in films, such as the 2020 Netflix holiday flick Holidate, alongside Emma Roberts, and the 2021 film Dear Zoe, which is still in post-production.
