The spread of the coronavirus disease around the world has forced people to maintain social distancing at any given time. This way, we can help stop the spread of COVID-19 which was described by the World Health Organization as “the defining global health crisis of our time.”
Sadly, for many Filipinos, social distancing also means limited public transport services as the loading capacity of buses, trains, and taxis have been reduced to a minimum. This has left commuters stranded on major roads, train stations, and late for work. (Read: Pasig City to Roll out ‘Bike Loan’ Program for Employees)
One alternative transportation mode that is being eyed at the moment is the use of bicycles. However, it is not a secret that bicycles come with a price and not everyone can afford it. (Read: Kris Aquino Shares 4 Things She Realized While in Quarantine)
Luckily, former volleyball player-turned-TV host Gretchen Ho answered the call of many Filipinos by giving away 50 bicycles to those in dire need of transportation.

Giving away 50 BIKES to 50 deserving people. Because a BIKE can spell the difference between keeping a livelihood or not. If you are in need of 1, you may APPLY via the LINK on my BIO. You need to JUSTIFY WHY YOU ARE DESERVING, and you need to show proof when my team contacts you. You may also nominate someone lalo na kung wala silang internet but we'll go through the same verification process. We’ll be giving these away after MECQ. This took quite some time because we had them shipped from abroad, but I’ve used them and both mountain & folding bikes are of good quality. Special thanks to @specializedqc for helping me procure these! DONATE A BIKE, SAVE A JOB. If you want to be part of this project, you may CONTRIBUTE CASH DONATIONS, just send me a message via social media or email at [email protected] 🙂 Let’s empower people to continue fighting for their dreams by giving them a ride! 🚲💪🏻 #womaninaction #onebikeatatime #onedayatatime #covid19 #philippines #happinews

This project is part of Gretchen’s Women in Action Project—an initiative that she started during the start of the coronavirus pandemic in the country. She has partnered with bicycle shop Specialized QC to make the project possible.
“This took quite some time because we had them shipped from abroad, but I’ve used them and both mountain & folding bikes are of good quality. Special thanks to @specializedqc for helping me procure these!” Gretchen wrote in the caption.
Donate a Bicycle, Save Jobs
Gretchen also shared that good samaritans can take part in the initiative through cash donations. The former Ateneo Lady Eagles Spiker says she will be responding to donation queries on her social media accounts or through her email at [email protected].
“Let’s empower people to continue fighting for their dreams by giving them a ride!” Gretchen said.
