Globe Telecom gives free data access to government websites, helps in the fight against fake news

With the current spread of the pandemic coronavirus disease 2019 (CoViD-19), it is crucial to have credible sources of news and information. With that, Globe Telecom has decided to give the public free data access to the government site of the Department of Health (DOH) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

This move by Globe aims to eradicate the spread of fake news about CoViD-19 and other current national issues in the country. “We want to direct our customers to the proper sources of information about COVID-19 and Taal volcano status so that they won’t be misled by fake news which may only cause unwarranted fear. Hopefully, this will encourage them to visit the right websites and not rely on data that may not have been validated or recognized as true,” says Yoly Crisanto, Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications.

Globe is giving free data access to PHIVOLCS, DOH, and NDRRMC.

For health-related news, Globe Prepaid and TM subscribers may access DOH and NDRRMC websites through any internet browser. The telecommunications company also included a free access to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) website to help Filipinos monitor the current situation of the Taal Volcano.

In these times of trouble and confusion, it is best to update yourself only from credible news sources. And with the ongoing battle against the COVID-19, everyone should remain vigilant, healthy and carry on praying that may this pandemic end soon.
