The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has again appointed the 27 year-old Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) as its citizens’ arm in the May 13, 2019 National and Local Elections (NLE). This means that responsible citizens can do their part and volunteer to be PPCRV poll watchers.
In an 11-page resolution released on Jan. 11, 2019, the Comelec approved the PPCRV’s application to serve as their poll watchdog, crediting the council’s long track record of being a partner of the electoral commission. “The Commission would accordingly need all the help of all advocates of orderly and honest elections to assist it in the upcoming elections,” the decision said.
The PPRCV has always been active in assuring a fair and honest election in the country. In January 21, 2019, the council also served as the Comelec’s citizen arm in the Bangsamoro plebiscite. Last year, May 14, they also served as watchdogs at the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls.
As a citizen arm, the PPCRV will undertake information campaign on the conduct of election, report campaign violations, and help in the dissemination of the orders, decisions, and resolutions of the Commission. They will also help in encouraging voters to vote and designate watchers in polling precincts. So if you have always to improve the voting system in your community, this is your chance to make a difference.
