5 Easy Ways to Make a Relaxing Spa at Home

Feeling burned out? Try these hacks to turn your home into a spa.

While some of us are enjoying spending time with family, most people would agree that there’s nothing particularly relaxing about life during a pandemic. There’s the fear of you catching the virus or spreading it to your family, you get burned out by work or online classes, and lest we forget, the cabin fever that makes everyone want to just ask “when will this end?!”

Pre-pandemic, some of us would take a nice trip to the salon or spa to de-stress. However, as the cases continue to rise and countries are once again imposing lockdowns, a day at your favorite spa is still out of the question. (Read: 5 Easy Ways for Moms to Recharge and Relax)

But while you are encouraged to stay at home, you can still recreate the spa experience. Here are five ways on how to bring the spa to your humble abode:

Home Spa Tip: Create a calm ambiance and vibe

Smells are an important part of the spa atmosphere, so grab your diffuser if you have one. Use lavender, chamomile, or cinnamon-scented essential oils but if you want to really have that authentic spa smell, go for eucalyptus. If you don’t have a diffuser, a scented soy candle will get the job done as well. (Read: Ever Heard of Soy Candles? Here’s Why You Should Get One!)

Now that you have created the smell, gather the amenities— fluffiest towels, your favorite slippers, your best bathrobe. Anything that makes you think: comfy. Lastly, make “spa waters” or infused waters to keep you hydrated. Play around with flavors such as strawberries and mint, citrus and cucumbers, or different types of berries.

Home Spa Tip: Make a soothing playlist

Create a resort-like vibe in your home by crafting a relaxing playlist. Choose instrumentals to calm your nerves or your favorite pick-me-up songs. Or you could look for ready-made ones on your favorite streaming service. Plug your phone or music player into your speaker and feel yourself relax as you listen to the soothing rhythm.

Home Spa Tip: Give yourself a foot spa

Perhaps one of the easiest yet chicest ways to bring the spa to your home is to give yourself a foot spa! It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the fancy equipment normally used in foot spas, just dip your toes in some warm water filled with bath salts or essential oils, Soak your feet at the end of a hectic day, with your favorite show on, and feel all your worries melt away.

Here’s a recipe on how you can make an all-natural foot scrub: combine a cup of brown sugar with a cup of oatmeal then add a few drops of olive oil. Apply the scrub to your feet then let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and apply your favorite body moisturizer. (Read: 3 Items to Make Your Home Theater Dreams Come True)

Any beauty junkie would probably have tons in stock, so use them to give yourself a quick spa sesh at home. After your skincare routine, add the mask as an extra step and imagine having a luxurious facial at the end of a long day.

If you don’t extra face masks lying around, look up DIY masks online. You can use olive oil, eggs, avocado, or coffee. Add a glass of wine and video call your friends for an added oomph.

Home Spa Tip: Use a body scrub

Body scrubs are one of the things that one might miss when having a spa day. But you can easily— and safely— do it at home. Use your favorite body scrub and slough off any impurities on the surface of your skin.

If you want au naturel, make a homemade scrub with texture ingredients like sugar, salt, coffee grounds, olive oil, and more.  You will instantly feel fresher and lighter once the gunk and dead skin is off your skin.
