When veteran actor Christopher de Leon announced on March 17 that he had tested positive for COVID-19, he became one of the first celebrities in the Philippines to have had the disease.
A few days later, on March 27, actress Iza Calzado also revealed that she tested positive for the deadly virus. Other personalities, such as comedian Michael V, and GMA News’ Howie Severino also soon shared their diagnosis experience.
Luckily, even with over 297,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 5,000 deaths in the country, many celebrities and personalities who reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 have since recovered. Here are some of them. (Read: Dwayne Johnson Shares Learnings After Contracting COVID-19)
On Sunday, September 20, Kapuso actor Enzo Pineda revealed on his social media accounts that he and his Dad have tested positive for COVID-19—and that they were able to survive it! (Read: COVID-19 May Cause Heart Injuries, Studies Suggest)
The actor also said on his Instagram that the experience has made him closer to God and become more faithful. “I want to thank God for giving me strength. Definitely, this pandemic made me more closer to Him. I promised God that I will come out stronger mentally, physically, & spiritually after this experience. God is good.”
Comedienne Kakai Bautista revealed on September 11 that she had tested positive for COVID-19 but has since recovered. In an Instagram post, Kakai, who was revealed be asymptomatic of the virus, can be seen celebrating and dancing to Michael Buble’s “Feeling Good.” (Read: Michael Bublé gives Filipina nurse a home, fulfills his grandfather’s dying wish)
In the caption, Kakai took the opportunity to remind everyone that COVID-19 is a no-laughing matter and should be taken seriously. “GUYSH, COVID is not a Joke. Oo, sakit sya, virus sya. Pero mas PARANG ikakamatay mo ang FEAR AND ANXIETY pag nagkaroon ka,” she wrote.
On a video posted on August 18, Baninay Bautista, a Filipina YouTube vlogger and former housemate of the reality TV show “Pinoy Big Brother,” revealed that she and her whole family have tested positive for COVID-19. (Read: Bishop Pabillo Recovers From COVID-19)
Baninay also revealed that she does not have most of the symptoms, except for a mild sore throat. The vlogger and the rest of her family have since recovered from the disease and are now back on track with their usual day-to-day activities.
