The Twitterverse’s cutest reactions to the new royal baby’s name

There is a new addition to the members of the British royal family, and we can’t help but adore him and his extraordinary name!

Yesterday, May 8, Prince Harry and Meghan made noise online after they officially announced their firstborn son’s name on Instagram. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their firstborn child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” the caption read.

In the post, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are seen introducing their son to his great-grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, for the first time. “This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle,” it says. “The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

As expected, people are quick to react to the announcement. The name ‘Archie’ immediately became a trending topic on Twitter, with most users expressing their surprise at the royal couple’s decision.

It turns out, the name Archie deviates from the British royal family’s tradition of naming their kin after a past British monarch or even an older member of their family. And while Prince Harry and Meghan are still yet to explain how they arrived at their firstborn’s name, the Twitterverse is already stepping in––with users already making their own creative theories as to where the royal couple got the name Archie!

A Comic Book Series

Among the first users to post a tweet about Royal Baby Archie was American comic book publisher, Archie Comics. “I’m baby.” the publisher’s official Twitter page tweeted.

A Famous Football Player

The Hibernian Football Club, a Scottish football club that is more commonly known as Hibs, also jumped in. “Archie? Obviously named after an iconic moment, @SteveArchibald8” the club’s official Twitter page posted, along with a photo of legendary Scottish football player, Steve Archibald.

A Star Wars Actor

But the winning theory is that of Star Wars actor Mark Hamill––who shared a photo of Prince Harry and Prince William’s visit to the Star Wars set.

“Here’s me with William & Harry pitching the idea of naming any future royal baby after their favorite #StarWars actor,” Hamill tweeted. “Happy they chose Archie HARRISON Mountbatten-Windsor, but regret not being more specific. Should have pitched favorite #StarWars actor WHO PLAYED LUKE.” ––Hamill was referring to his co-star in the Star Wars movies, Harrison Ford.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, born early Monday morning, is seventh in line to the English throne. He succeeds Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince William, his cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, and his father, Prince Harry.
