Whenever we run out of ideas on what to cook or prepare for lunch, we often turn to the internet to find some inspiration. We would look up recipes on Google or watch videos from our favorite cooking channels on YouTube. There are also times when we just watch cooking videos as a form of entertainment and relaxation. And one of these channels that many love to watch is Bon Appetit.
The Bon Appetit YouTube channel is Bon Appetit Magazine’s digital entertainment arm. It is most known for its “Test Kitchen” segment where their in-house contributors and chefs try out new recipes in the studio kitchen or an outdoor setting like farms and factories. But in June of this year, Bon Appetit had been under fire after issues of racism within the company were raised to public attention. It comes as an old photo of their then-editor-in-chief Adam Rapoport in brownface surfaced online. Shortly after, one of the Test Kitchen’s mainstays Sohla El-Waylly also accused the company of being discriminating toward employees of color. (Read: 3 Times Beyoncé Gave Voice to the ‘Black Lives Matter’ Movement) Rapoport has resigned following the issues, and since then, many employees of color from both the magazine and the YouTube channel have quit and the channel has been inactive.
So now, amid the issues surrounding the inactivity of Bon Appetit on YouTube, many have been looking for new channels to follow to fill the gap that the cooking show has left behind. But fret no more, because My Pope rounded up some new channels you can subscribe to! (Read: New YouTube Series Promotes Sustainable Cooking at Home)
