Blackpink Jennie Starts YouTube Channel, Other Members Begin Solo Projects

The "Solo" singer already surpassed four million subscribers in just four days!

Last January 16, Jennie Kim of the Korean girl group Blackpink finally launched her own YouTube channel.

Known by her stage name Jennie, the 25-year-old singer-rapper unveiled to the world her channel ‘Jennierubyjane official’ on her birthday. And the first video that she posted is an introduction to what her channel is all about.

“Celebrating my birthday, I was thinking what I should do,” she said, “And I decided to turn on my camera to share my daily life and exciting things with you guys.” (Read: 5 K-Pop Fans Share Why They Support Korean Artists)

After showing her ‘outfit of the day’, Jennie then proceeds to sing her own version of Tangled’s “When Will My Life Begin?” originally sung by Mandy Moore. Clips of her doing the laundry, cleaning her room, and hanging out with her dog, among others, were shown while her cover was playing in the background.

She ends the video by saying, “I hope you guys enjoyed the video I prepared for you today. I’ll try harder to make better for you guys from now on!”

The Jennierubyjane official channel now has 3.82 million subscribers, just three days after the launch.

Blackpink Solo Projects

But this isn’t the first solo project Jennie has ventured in. Back in 2018, Jennie released her first solo single entitled “SOLO,” which became an instant hit among K-pop fans and the number one song on the Gaon Music Charts. As of writing, the music video for the song now has over 602 million views.

On the other hand, her fellow members Rosé, Lisa, and Jisoo also have their own solo projects. Jisoo is currently shooting for a new K-drama entitled “Snowdrop” where she is the lead, while Rosé and Lisa are said to be in the post-production stages of their individual songs.
