As the saying goes, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But, if you’re Kim Chiu, when life gives you lemons — turn it into a new single!
And that’s exactly what the singer-actress-vlogger did over the weekend. If you’ll remember, internet trolls and other netizens cyberbullied Kim Chiu for her emotional and quite confusing statement about the ABS-CBN shutdown. However, in a sudden turn of events, the actress proved that everything has a silver lining after she turned her viral “Bawal Lumabas” debacle into a new single.
The New Anthem
The single is based on the viral lo-fi beat created by music arranger DJ Squammy which also went viral—and was used by internet trolls to attack her. The song premiered on Kim’s YouTube channel along with a music video that features clips of Kim at home, at outreach programs, and of TikTok users dancing to the DJ Squammy beat.
In her recent vlog on her Youtube channel, the actress herself admitted that she also found the statement funny and confusing, but she did not expect that she would be a target of criticism and hateful bashing.
Kim also admitted that the incident made an impact on her mental health so she decided to stay off the internet for a while.
“I’m not going to lie to everyone. I was really down the past few days. As in super down, lower than the basement of a parking lot… I choose the option to move forward,” she said.
Support From Fans
At the start of the video, Kim thanked her supporters, particularly Adrian Crisanto, who wrote a viral open letter to her on Facebook that encouraged her to turn the situation in-side-out. The letter went viral that it reached Kim’s ABS-CBN bosses and management who forwarded the letter to her several times.
“I was really sad. Anyone (who) you were in my shoes would feel the weight of the world. I didn’t expect that people would be capable of saying such things,” shares Kim in her vlog. “People were laughing at what I said and honestly, I thought I was funny too, I didn’t understand what I said.”
“But oh well, it’s done. Past is past. We are in another chapter and I want to make things negative into positive. Because there are a lot of sad people now so because of Bawal Lumabas they became happy. If that gives them hope, if that makes them happy, I’m doing a good job,” Kim added.
Just a few hours after the premiere of her music video, Kim has received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from netizens. The hashtag #WeStanKimChiu and the phrase “Bawal Lumabas” made it to the Philippine trends list of Twitter on Monday.
On Tuesday, Chiu said on her Instagram that it’s her “Best Gising Ever” because of the feedback she received from her new single.
