Saint Paul the Apostle was the greatest of the early Christian missionaries. He is originally named Saul and was raised as a Pharisee trained to strictly observe God’s law. He actively persecuted the Church in Jerusalem— he was there when the first Christian martyr Stephen was being stoned to death.
His most famous story was when he went to Damascus to persecute the early Christians. On the road, he encountered the Risen Jesus Christ. Jesus asked, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting e?” to which Paul replied, “Who are you, sir?” Jesus responded, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.” (Read: 3 Prayers of Protection to Beloved Catholic Saints)
Saul was shaken and blinded by the experience. Only when a Christian named Ananias came and baptized Saul that his blindness went away. From then on, he followed Jesus.
If you are struggling to find a purpose in your life, have patience like Paul. Christ will guide you toward the righteous path. Here is a prayer for his intercession if you are getting impatient and lost.
Prayer to St. Paul for Patience
O glorious St. Paul,
who from a persecutor of Christianity,
did become a most ardent apostle of zeal;
and who to make known the Saviour Jesus Christ
to the ends of the world did suffer with joy imprisonment,
scourging, stonings, shipwrecks
and persecutions of every kind,
and in the end did shed your blood to the last drop,
obtain for us the grace to receive,
as favours of the Divine Mercy,
and mistfortunes of the present life,
so that the vicissitudes of this our exile
will not render us cold in the service of God,
but will render us always more faithful and fervent.
