In the past year, the Adopt Don’t Shop campaign has gained more local and international traction thanks to non-profit organizations, private individuals, and even celebrities. And just last Monday, one of the most famous rescue dogs, hero dog Kabang from Zamboanga, passed away at 13 years old.
If you can recall, Kabang was the dog who bravely saved two young girls from being hit by a vehicle some 10 years ago. He was successful at saving them, but ended up losing the top part of his mouth. Despite this, the beloved dog continued to live a happy life at the hands of his adopter, a veterinarian and advocate of the Adopt Don’t Shop campaign. In honor of Kabang and all other loving rescue dogs here and around the world, and in celebration of National Rescue Dog Day today, let us all recite this prayer asking for protection, guidance, and love for these four-legged companions.
Prayer for Rescue Dogs
Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends, the animals, especially for those who are suffering; for any that are lost or deserted, or frightened or hungry.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them, we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful. Amen.
