“The Earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth. In many parts of the planet, the elderly lament that once beautiful landscapes are now covered with rubbish.”
This is what Pope Francis said in his 2015 encyclical, Laudato si’. In the 184-page letter to Catholics around the world, Lolo Kiko reminded everyone that we only have one Earth, and that we must do everything in our power to protect and preserve it. But admittedly, the climate change crisis has worsened in the past couple of years, resulting in warmer temperatures around the world— eventually melting huge chunks of ice in the coldest corners of the globe. So for this year’s World Environment Day, let us all pray for the environment— trees, animals, seas and oceans, and all others that are slowly, but drastically, being affected by climate change. Let us join Pope Francis in pushing for environmental care and initiatives for combatting climate change.
A Prayer for Environmental Protection
Heavenly Father, You have taught us, through your servant St Francis, that all creation is your handiwork.
Grant us your grace that we may exercise wise stewardship of this Earth; tread lightly upon it; and cherish its resources; that our children may enjoy its riches, throughout all generations, and Your name be glorified through all that you have made. Amen.
