A Feast Day Prayer to Saints Cosmas and Damian

Get to know the two saints who stood strong by their faith during 303 AD!

Today, September 26, the Catholic community celebrates the feast day of Saints Cosmas and Damian.

Little is known about the lives of these two saints. Some reports claim that Cosmas and Damian were twin brothers who were born in Arabia. There are also others that say that the two were skilled doctors who actively practiced the Christian faith and healed patients without asking for any payment. While we may never know the real and exact story behind Saints Cosmas and Damian, we can still be certain about one thing in their lives: They were prominent practitioners of medicine who suffered martyrdom in Syria during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian (around 303 AD).

With this, we can say that Cosmas and Damian lived as men of strong faith—a claim that is best manifested not only by their unfortunate fate, but also by the crowds of faithful who passed on their story to the younger generations.

Prayer to Saints Cosmas and Damian

Oh glorious martyrs of Christ, Saints Cosmas and Damian, you gave your lives for the love of God, benefiting your fellow man, and crowning your martyrdom with an open and loyal profession of your faith.

You taught us to love God above all things, and to love our fellow man as ourselves, professing always, and without fear, the religion of Jesus.

Augmenting amongst the faithful populace many miracles, you are glorious indeed. Through your intercession, which brings about deliverance of these miracles, we pray to you for your aid in all things. May your patronage never be far from us in the illness of our body and soul.
