Sneak Peek: Furniture Designer Ito Kish Talks About His Vocation

Last year, award-winning furniture designer Ito Kish closed the doors of his 500-square-meter store along Nicanor Garcia in Makati, with the intention to slow down and live his life away from the demands of his seventeen-year-old business.

However, it seems that the visual storyteller extraordinaire still has tales to share with his loyal patrons because he recently opened a pop-up store, STORIES. Showcasing an array of vintage mid-century furniture and carefully curated home ornaments, fans of Ito’s work will be able to score pieces until end of August. STORIES is on Level 2, Powerplant Mall new wing.

In case you haven’t read our feature on Ito, here’s a quick peek:

What are you currently busy with?

Since the closure of my store almost a year ago, I am now a creative consultant for Robinsons Department Store. I’m also finishing a penthouse [interior design] project in Madison Avenue, New York City, a new project in Long Island, New York. I will be involved with [the Filipino artisan fair] ArteFino again this year. It’s been a good eight months with the freedom to travel, spend more time in the gym, and just not rush things. I want to get to choose projects I want to get involved in.

How did you know this career path was for you?

I did not know that this would be my path. I basically took all the opportunities wherein I would learn something, and things just kind of took their own course.

What inspires you in your design process?

To design is to create beauty, discipline, and happiness. My being Filipino and my travels are my inspiration.
